I'm taking lessons at US scuba in Rochester and want to be able to compare prices with another scuba shop in the area that carries Atomic Regs, sea quest BC's and henderson wet suits?

please help

also is there any Michigan dedicated scuba boards?
thanks

I went to that shop and I wasn't very impressed. Lack of customer service, out of stock, not very friendly. I've been there several times and each visit was like this.
Thanks though, if you know of any more please let me know

I teach at Rec Diving and I am surprised to hear about your experience. Jim and Diane, the owners, are great people and very friendly, as is the rest of the regular store staff. Due to some uncontrollable factors, such as employees' family situations, they have been a little short-staffed lately. If you drop by on a Saturday, everyone can be busy helping other customers. I would encourage you to try them again.

As you mentioned I did come in on saturday's each time and yes the store was crowded and I understand employee's situations. I will attempt to come in again hopefully during the week. Another issue I had was: I was told by an employee that I would receive an email flyer about a sale that was going to take place and a newsletter. I never got either one. I was waiting for this expensive item to go on sale so I could purchase it and I never got a sale flyer. Any ideas.
I would love to give your store another chance for my business, please help me out.

Try SEA THE WORLD SCUBA in Farmington Hills. On 10 mile just off Middlebelt. Craig , the owner, is a great guy to deal with. Wife and I took our open water classes and I have purchased all my equipment there. My wife is very small but Craig has always come through for us. From my experience with them I dont think I would shop anyplace else or deal with anyone else...just my two cents.

Funny, I visited with Craig today and seems like a great guy, very friendly and helpful. He also sells atomic regs at a great price. My LDS says that if I buy a reg from craig that they will not service it (my shop being US SCUBA) doesn't that sound a little weird?

They also said that Craig is not properly set up to service Atomic regs?

what do you think?

Rec normally has a once-a-year sale in May. For some reason, it has not happened yet this year, although the last time I asked about it, they were still planning to have it at some time. I do not know what their plans are now for the sale. I will see what I can find out and let you know.

First of all, US Scuba while a big large place with a pool is pretty low on m list due to their rigid rules and expectations that you need to buy everything from them.

I know both Diane and Jim (Rec Diving ) and Craig (Sea the World) and have dealt with both shops and like dealing with them both.

If you are looking for Atomic equipment and want better pricing on the Henderson; Sea the World is your best bet. Craig is more competetive on price while Rec Diving is more of a list price shop mainly based on their Scuba Pro realtionship - I also wondered what happen to their normal big Spring sale.

Rec has the the best Reg tech in Detroit especially for SP regs. Jim is a great insturctor and they do a great job on specialty classes. For non-tech training I like Rec's perspective (Sea the World is much better for tech type training or the purchase of BP & Wing kind of equipment). I have done trips with Rec and had a great time. Janet from Dive Travel Services that operates out of Sea the World is great as well and she is a big underwater photag. and is a nice lady to boot.

No the choice is yours.;)

tell me what you think of this. SO I price out a complete package at Sea the world.
including
atomic B2 reg w aqua lung octo
Sea Quest Marlin BC (large)
Henderson 5mm hyperstretch jump suit (xl)
Suunto Cobra pro pack (includes compass and quick disconnect)

I get a price from Craig and then call US Scuba. The guy at US tells me "Craig can give you a better price on atomic regulators but he isn't set up to service them like I am" He then goes into a speil about how the law mandates prices on certain things and the if his prices are too low he is breaking the law. US never did give me a price on the complete package. But US stressed that they are service orientated and that he would "take care of me" it would cost me hundreds more but I would be taken care of.

Another thing is that US told me that they will not allow me to bring outside equipment into their pool (equipment bought at another store) because they would have to test it first to make sure it works properly. Ok I can understand if I would purchase used stuff to test it first. Come on, I signed my life off on the liability forms, why is this such an issue. Now I'm really getting worked up :)
I guess I'm new to this sport and maybe don't fully understand it all.

So with Rec diving service equipment that I didn't purchase their? specifically atomic regs?
