Hey all, the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park. (formerly the Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park), has asked us current volunteers to put out the word that they are looking for new volunteers.

Here's a brocure they sent out,
volbrochure-01.jpg
it's kind of fuzzy so you can go to the website for more information as well
Children's Aquarium at Fair Park Dallas Texas Under "general info" click on "volunteers"

It's a lot of fun, I've been doing it for 6 or 7 years now at least and it has been very rewarding.

We are still working on getting the proper certifications to re-start up the dive program, (we're gonna get to dive with sharks!!), but we need lots of hands to work the main touch tank and the Stingray Bay touch tank as well as other educational type work around the joint.

If you are interested in doing some "behind the scenes" work and getting your hands dirty, they also need "aquarist helper" volunteers (not really sure that's what they are called, but that is what they do)

Some of the cool bennies that come along with the "job" are, we have a volunteer party every year in conjunction with the zoo volunteers (we are part of the Dallas Zoo system even though we are at Fair Park), food, drink, door prizes!!

Also, during the State Fair, we get some sort of pass to not only get in and park for free the day you work, but they will give us a couple days passes to come to the Fair when we are not working...volunteer shifts are only 3-4 hours, so the days you do work, you can still enjoy the Fair as well.

They are always thinking up clever ways of thanking us for our service, it is very much apprieciated and they never let us forget it.

You can PM me if you have any questions as well.

thanks all, yer 'ol pal Sharky

Would love to, but I live a bit outside comfortable commute distance. Sounds like fun!

What kind of committments do they look for?

I can't read the e-mail addy on the brochure; will you repost it?

Hi, I am a certified open water diver by PADI and an avid marine and freshwater aquarist. I would be relocating to Plano, TX in a couple of weeks. Does the Children's Aquarium at Fair Park need volunteers? I would be most interested in a Dive Volunteer position.

Thanks
Gogol
