So far, so good. I've been on island about a week and have managed to enjoy 6 dives so far -- all boat. Thanks to Pearl and Fishboy for linking me up with the right people.

Weekends aren't enough though. I want to get in some weekday dives before heading back to Northeast waters and am looking for someone to dive with this week and next. I've been thinking of Electric Beach near Ewa, and will probably dive it Thursday afternoon after work. Anyone else interested in a afternoon and then twilight/night dive? I'm 30, DM-cert, with 200+ dives.

Does anyone have other suggestions for local sites west of downtown? Any warnings about conditions/current, riptides, etc. I don't want to leave anything in my car, but also am not sure if it would be safer to leave a tank on shore.

Hope to catch someone -
Louie

I'm not a huge shore diver either, at least this time of the year. Makaha Caverns can be done as a shore dive, but I've always done it by boat. It is my favorite dive on the west side.

I wouldn't leave a tank on the beach though, if that's what you're considering.

If the surf is higher than 2-3 feet, I would take a few minutes to assess the conditions at Electric Beach to decide if you want to attempt it. Every time I've done that dive in surf higher than that, there's been a very strong current moving parallel to shore and the vis was really crap. Getting out of the channel is easy, but once you're beyond the protection of the wall, the current can get you pretty good.

Just arrived back in wintry Boston and wishing I were back in Hawaii. Thanks to the Sea Lancers (oldest military dive club and second oldest active diving organization), I was able to get 16 dives in my 3 weeks on island. Of all the dives, my favorite was either China Wall or Blowhole. Amazing underwater topography and watching octopuses (octopi?) attempt to shift colors and shape to camoflauge itself was a treat.

I hope you guys realize how good you have it! A bad day in HI is a wonderful day most other places around now.

See you all in a year or so!
Cheers,
Louie

i just seen your post. I wish I would have looked earlier. I dive whenever I get a dive buddy. We were in Maui the 10th-12th. Didn't dive there and didn't really enjoy our time there either. Next time you come back this way, pm me and I can go diving anytime.

Sorry to see you go Louie...

I just got back from New York, glad to hear you had a good time in Hawaii.
