Christi, It actually opened under the name "The Diamond Resort" and going from memory that was sometime in 95. At the time it was to the best of my knowledge the first & only resort south of the Fiesta Americana. Even then it was an Occidental property from what I found when researching the change over to the HVWS name. The next resort to open in that zone was the Reef Club which opened in late 97, and then I think the Iberostar opened a bit before the Grand somewhere around 2000-2002.

It looks like First Choice is still selling packages to it as the HVWS. It's on this page which I just copied the link for.
