Ok, as long winded as I can be (self-admitted), I will try to keep this somewhat short.

(For all the long-time, experienced yet fun divers, skip the numbers and read the ending paragraphs....lol).

(I know there are also a lot of lurkers that do not post.....please feel free to PM me).

I am searching for a specific buddy that is:

1. New to diving or just getting back to diving after a layoff.

2. Wanting to progress at a steady pace toward the technical side of diving, i.e. adv nitrox/deco procedures, extended range, trimix (levels), wreck penetration and cave diving.

3. Adamant about safety and dive research; however, not overly anal...um not fun and enthusiastic, while maintaining safety.

So here's the deal: as posted in my intro thread, I will have my wife and kids as dive buddies; however, my wife has no real interest in any aspect of tech diving and my kids won't be ready for years, and I won't push them if they do not show interest when they make the required age.

However, I'm just one of those weirdos that wants to progress to the tech world. Once again, I'm not just going to go gung-ho and jump off into training without acquiring knowledge and logging dives. That said, I would love to find a buddy that wants to walk down this same path.

Experienced Folk Start Here:

For all my experienced and fun loving, safe future friends and dive buddies:

I look forward to joining you as I proceed around the various lakes and quarries of TX/OK. I would love to dive with you and learn from you. I know I can learn from anyone willing to help and I know we Texan's stick together and help each other. So if you are willing to deal with a newbie and constructively point out some things you think I need to work on, by all means let me dive with you.

In the end I still preach my mantra, safe and fun with a little knowledge to go alongside.

And, yes, I will be "bumping" this thread to the top myself if no one responds....not to annoy anyone, but to make sure it stays on the first page in case my future dive buddy doesn't read everyday. Please be forgiving if this annoys you.

Take care all and God Bless!

Dive safe. :cool2:

Nice intro.......

I get into too much trouble so you may not be looking for me... at least not for awhile anyway.
But, if we ever run into each other at the lake I'll be nice.

Here is to good fortune on you're quest ! :beerchug:

Timeliner,

Nah....as you can see by my original joining of this board (2003), I've been reading on and off for awhile. So I've read quite a bit about you...lol.

Actually, you seem like the type of fella that I would enjoy diving with. I don't mind trouble as long as a great attitude follows with it.

Be good, well as good as you can be anyway.

Bumping back up for possible buddies to see.

Take care.

I have PM'd you.. If you don't mind cooling down in cooler water I dive year round..go from 3 mil to 5 mil to dry and back. Any time you want to dive, pm me back and will be glad to dive..and bring your wife and kids...family diving is great. My whole family dives, although my wife isn't fond of the colder temps, but the viz can be awesome.

Looking forward to it. If I can just get time to get this dental work done and heal up, I'll be ready to roll.

Take care and thanks for the reply.

Alright folks, I certainly don't want to be a pest, but I know there are plenty of friendly folks out there that want to help the newbie.

I've already gotten a few responses from some great individuals and will be taking them up on their offer to help me.

This is the deal, black and white.....I do not reinvent wheels or stand on my own supremacy. I know that the best way to progress is to stand on the shoulders of those who are better than me. That said, I am looking for dive buddies who will drag the newbie around. Yes it is a sacrifice on your part....lol....but everyone was new once, yes? I promise to be attentive and I will accept all constructive criticism.

Caveat: I prefer peaceful people who point out mistakes in a calm manner. I will not accept someone with a drill sargent attitude. This is supposed to be fun. I'll accept being called stupid and all names in the book in a jovial sort of jest. However, if you want to jump in my face and start screaming, you best not dive with me. To me, that is stupid. I'm not preparing for war here, but it is my life. Tell me what I've done wrong, even to the point of being stupid, but don't jump in my face. I will respond negatively to that.

Looking forward to diving with the teachers! :D

Too bad you live in Texas and not in Canada, I like your attitude. Good luck with your diving.

Thanks! I was hoping people wouldn't take my "caveat" the wrong way.

And you never know, I might end up in your neck of the woods in Canada for a few dives in my life and I'll certainly look your way.

Dive safe!

We are always up for a dive trip, I suspect my wife can help yours along to technical diving. All it took was one deep-wreck to get her to catch the bug. I'm admittedly over retentive about safety but in a good way. I've been bent, cns'sd and a bunch of other things that proper procedures and things we know now but didn't back then would have kept from happening. But I'm not an a--- about it. I'm perfectly willing to dive with anyone, but at the same time i'm not too shy about questioning what they are doing. If you've thought it through, great I might learn something. If you haven't thought it through (or read it on scuba board and tried it out :shocked2: ) you might learn something. Either way the discourse should be civil and respectful. Part of "being safe" is the lack of fear to question your dive buddy and having a discussion about it. Without the A-factor. Life is too short and not nearly enough fun in general to have someone jump in your face over a minor nit-pick of diving procedures. I used to dive for a living, now I dive for fun. If someone attempts to ruin the fun of diving by being a jerk, I won't dive with them again, simple enough.
