Going to be in NOLA in June and I am looking for a charter that will take us out for some rig experience. Anyone know of anything or is anyone interested in putting together a trip for the weekend of June 10th - 12th. I will be there on business with my hubbie tagging along for sight seeing.

Try Harry's dive shop (http://harrysdiveshop.com) in Metairie. No trips in 2003, due to the lack of boats, but were trying in 2004 (year of the endless hurricane).

I've been referred to http://www.captaintroywetzel.com/diving.htm by the shop that does my equipment service. Also xtreme fishing charters http://www.rodnreel.com/xtreme/index.asp?pg=scuba

I took a trip on the Barracuda (out of Port Fourchon) once several years ago, and cannot recommend it for comfort.

In any event, you're looking at a 1-2 hour drive and at least a 2-hour boat trip from the port. I'm told it's worth it, but don't know first hand. Looked pretty from hanging over the railing

Thanks for the info.

Sorry for your past experiences. I'll try to remember the dramamine.

The biggest activity on the oil rigs is spearfishing. Most of the diving is done from private boats and some of the diving clubs will charter crew boats that service the rigs, but at this time I am not aware of any individual walk on charter boats operating. Capt. Troy Wetzel may be able to squeeze you on if he has room and has a dive charter that weekend ( he also does fishing charters ) and I believe he is your best bet other than contacting one of the dive clubs and ask if you could go on one of their trips. Below are two of the New Orleans area clubs.
