I am interested as to why the pull dump on the inflator is a bad idea.
Sorry if I changed the subject of this post.

I don't think it's a 'bad idea,' I personally like to 'trim' my bouyancy with the dumps I spoke about. To start a dive, pulling on the corregated hose is a way to dump your BC if you like it, it just feels to me like it's dumping a large amount of air all at once. If I use the 'pullstring dumps,' I let a little air out, then my adjustments at depth are minor, and I can maintain my bouyancy with little effort (the air in the BC is compressing at depth). Constantly dumping and filling the BC is something I see divers who are still trying to get their bouyancy skills down. It's all practice, and different divers like their own methods. The 'string dumps' are just my method.

I don't like reaching way up to lift the hose to vent it that way, and operating the inflator dump via the hose is harder to finesse than a plain dump with a short string. As far as bad idea, basically they don't seem all that sturdy. If you've never had one apart, the inflator is connected the dump valve by a cord or cable running inside the hose. It's not very convenient to take a look and see what's going on in there, to make sure the cord isn't weakening or an end isn't trying to detach itself. And I've seen them break.

The bumps are not my Major concern in choosing a bc. I don't like holding the inflator up either. Those are the just the bc's that I like. My LDS doesn't have any of these to try out. Well I used a OLD glide last night in the pool. It was to worn out to make any decisions on. I would really like to try them out some how.
