We ,(3), are looking for a charter boat to go out on Saturday, September 19.
Could possibly do Friday, 9-18.
Anyone have any advice. Bottomscratcher and the Sand Dollar go out on sunday and that is not the best for me. Great Escape does not have a trip that day, can't seem to get info. on the "Mr. C" and the Magician is booked by Sports chalet.
Thanks............

Sport Chalet doesn't always fill up the whole boat so you might want to call Jerry direct. The Spectre goes out on Fridays & is going out on the 19th give them a call.

The Sundiver Express is going out the 18th- and has a shop trip the 19th you might be able to join
Sundiver Express - Trip Schedule
The Sundiver also has a shop trip with Private Scuba Private Scuba

I've called shops that have boats chartered and many times they are happy to have someone fill vacant spots. You don't necessarily need to be a shop patron to join them.

Spectre is in my top 5 and Anacapa is just different enough than Catalina that it is always good.
You can spend the night on the boat the evening before, which is nice as it's a two hour drive for me on a Saturday and a 3 hour one way during the week.
Both the Sundiver and Sundiver Express are good (Express is great if you don't have all day free to get away). Week ago, I went out with the Private Scuba group on a two dive oil rigs and really enjoyed my time with a group of divers I never met before. The Express goes out on Friday....I'm on 9/11 Friday for 3 dives.
Enjoy....one of these days I'll get to meet you in person.

Both Anacapa & Santa Cruz have good dive spots that the Spectre always hits.

John

How about the Magician??? They do Friday boats:
Magician Dive Boat San Pedro CA Schedule of Trips

we have done the Spectre a couple of times, it is a good boat and diving is pretty easy up at Anacapa/Santa Cruz. That boat usually has several classes on it and more beginner divers than some others but they still go to all the good sites.

I have photos of the boat here:

Thanks for the photos robint. The Magician is less than 10 minutes from where I live making it extremely easy and the Spectre is maybe a two hour drive (traffic depending).
Never been on The Magician, but have heard quite a few good things about her. Friday would work okay for us plus it is a bit less compared to Saturday.

The Spectre looks nice. Out of Ventura, a bit of a drive for us but a chance to dive Anacapa
or San Cruz.
Anyone dove with them?

Dennis,

Please check out the Spectre. Nice boat, NICE hot tub:D

Anacapa was gorgeous through the Labor Day weekend, so hopefully it's still going to be nice by then. Normally I'd join you but I have a company picnic that I can't miss out on for that day.

Check to see if the Sea Bass is running that day Dive Sea Bass - diving co. It's in the same harbor as the Magician which I also like. Either of those will suit your needs. If you're going to drive all the way to Ventura hop on the Peace. They won't drop you in the same Goldfish Bowl, Underwater Island, Landing Cove spots that are completely over dove and you won't be limited by a boat loaded with students. But if John is on the boat that's a different story.
