With the demise of Cape Fear Dive Center and the Hawksbill, I am in need of a new ride out to the meg ledges. From what I can tell, they were the only operator in the Wilmington area to run out there on a regular basis. I typically can't/don't schedule these trips far in advance and usually wait until I can confirm with reasonable certainty that weather will cooperate. I try to get out 2-3 times a year. Don't care if it is a 6 pack or big boat, but would prefer someone who is comfortable with me diving a rebreather within recreational limits (no deco). I don't have any buddies interested in this type of diving at the moment so it is typically just me. I am finding that most of the six-packs that run out there are typically booked by a group. Any suggestions of operators that I may have overlooked who suit my needs?

Get a hold of Capt James with Tortuga Charters out of MHC. He is running Meg dives in August out of Willmington. We chartered a weekend with him and I know he is trying to fill seats on other trips. He is Tech diver freindly and a great Capt to dive with.

You can PM him here on SB if you do a search for Tortuga.

Spoke to Capt Doug earlier this week. I was really excited about his boat, but he is pretty booked up with cape fear out of the picture. Said most of the time groups book the entire boat but occasionally he has some spots open. He is supposed to let me know if something comes open. Unfortunately I don't have much faith that hsi opening will coincide with my availability and good weather.

Aquatic Safaris out of Wilmington/Wrightsville runs out there from time to time except they call it Fossil Ledge. In fact I am going out there with them in a couple weeks. To start a charter you just call and if the date and boat is open they will put it on the schedule. The fossil ledge dives are popular. They allow rebreathers and tech set ups on the ledge.

Try Scuba Now. I went out with them a few weeks ago and was happy with the store, crew, and boat. They put us right on the teeth on almost every dive. Plus, they include Faber 100 rentals and Nitrox fills for free with your charter fee.
