Excellent dive at Long Point this morning. Conditions looked good from the surface and entry/exit at the point was easily made. The kelp seemed to thick for a kelp crawl, so we decided to drop down early and then kick out to 45-50ft. From there we would go parallel to shore and look for the lady of the garden. We didn't end up finding her, but we found plenty of nice reefs to explore. Fall doesn't seem to be cooling off Long Point just yet so we lucked out with warm temps " 63 @ surface, 57 @ depth". Lots of sea life today, highlights included large sheephead and barred bass, schooling barracuda, oversized hermit crab and various nudi's.

I also lost 8lbs of lead during my exit. It consists of two 4lb soft lead in a plastic ziplock bag. If found, you know who to contact;)

I've included some pictures below:

I really love that last kelp shot. BTW, high tide was a little after 9:00 this morning so the statue would have been in 57 feet.

Ahh.... That's why we missed her! I usually head deeper into the 65-70ft zone and then come back up to 50ft when getting close to my NDL's. From there I usually do a sweep parallel to shore in search of the Lady until my air starts to get low. This time we decided to stay above 50ft until finding her, so that we could spend the majority of the time taking shots of her and Ted's pinnacle. There was still so much structure to explore that even though we missed the Lady, I wasn't disappointed.

Here's another:

Nice shooting Frank. I just may brave the hill and give that site a shot someday soon!

Beautiful!

Now I know what I've missed on the "warm water" trips to SoCal the last few times. Maybe next time the conditions will be right for me.

Thanks for posting.

If it make you feel homesick, it does get into the upper 40s at Marineland sometimes. Three years ago we had three weeks of 48F in July. There is a deep water dropoff offshore from Long Point that keeps the dive areas about ten degrees colder than Laguna Beach and Catalina. More invertebrate life for us. :)

I was wondering why there is more nudi's in variety and numbers at Long Point then else where.

40's at Marineland? in July?
