Do many people diving lose hose setups use Miflex? I am in the planning stages of designing my long hose + BP/W setup. I have never seen Miflex hose in person. Does the 84" miflex hose fit tight against the body or does it float away from the body? I'm just trying to visualize how this setup would look.

Thanks

I have a 7' miflex hose on my right post. It doesn't seem to float away. I have it hooked around a spare mask/emergency pocket on the right side of my waist strap on my hog harness. From there it goes up around the left side of my neck, wraps around my head and the second stage into my mouth from the right.

I was somewhat worried about the issue of floating away, but so far I have had no problems with it.

So does the Miflex stretch to length (say 84") when pulled tight (I am imagining a bungee cord) or is it more of a static hose that has a little bit of flex to it?

I guess what I'm trying to find out is: When you order an 84" Miflex hose, is it 84" when at rest or does it just stretch to 84"? Thanks

It is more static. I dive with all of my hoses Miflex.

I just have a Miflex for my backup reg. I needed to angle my MK25's steeply down for head clearance which crimped the regular hose. Switching to a Miflex on the backup reg solved this issue. My long hose is regular and I can see no reason to switch to Miflex.

I think you'll love diving a bp/w!

I've had no issues with Miflex on my long hose (Zeagle Envoy deluxe).

Well cept for my own stupidity :)

it was during a surface swim. The primary drifted down my back. When I tried to reach it using the PADI approved arm sweep (forgetting i was using a long hose), I could not reach it. After a few moments i remembered where it actually was and everything was right with the world.

I have my primary reg on a 5 ft. Miflex LP hose. It works well.
As others have explained, the Miflex hose does not have an "elastic"-stretchy quality to it. Hose length (as with traditional hoses) is static.

A quibble I have with the Miflex hose is that it seems to retain a "memory," i.e., the hose has a preferred direction of coiling. I have no doubt that the outer hose braid is responsible for this. Not a big deal, though. It's still easy to share air with another diver.

I had a miflex hose and swapped it out for a regular one after about 20 dives. The memory thing is too annoying. When doing training with continual gas shares, every few times when changing team position and fully deploying it would twist in an awkward way. We'd have to stop while the oog diver removed the reg and wound out the twists, or I'd have to untwist it to stow.

An upside is though, if you're not wearing gloves it feels different to the rubber hose so is easier to find during reg recovery.

I'd say you don't need it and a standard hose is cheaper and works better. It's not a disaster but why would make life any more difficult than needed.

I've done air-shares with several people using Miflex long hoses, and I don't like them. I have found them much more difficult to handle in that setting. The regular hose seems more "biddable".

They seem to make great sense for backup hoses and the hoses in doubles that have to make sharp turns, but a regular 7' hose works just fine.

I do not like miflex for long hose at all, it's way too floaty, which is annoying during air sharing. As a 5' hose it is great and for all my other hoses (other than HP), but definitely not a fan of a 7' miflex.
