I've decided to rerig my reg with a 5' lp hose for my primary and a 22" hose on my (soon-to-be) bungied secondary. I just realized that I'm not sure whether the secondary should be routed over my left shoulder or my right. Suggestions?

Route it over your right. Your first stage should have multiple low pressure ports, so attach your short hose to the front right one and the long hose to the back right one. The short hose will come directly over your right shoulder and sit beneath your chin....your long hose will come down your right side, tuck under something like a can light or knife sheath (or you could even tuck it into your waist strap), up your left side, around your neck, and into your mouth.

I don't know if you're into the whole GUE thing, but HERE is some very good information on equipment and configuration. There are some pictures that will show you exactly what I said, if it was confusing.

Yep, out the right.

If possible, both should be plugged into right-facing posts on your first stage. Don the backup first and long hose afterwards.

Before diving, always perform a mod-S. Do this by breathing off the long hose reg, then grabbing the reg by the hose with your right hand, palm facing you, and swinging the hose over your head and out, so your arm ends fully extended away from you, palm (and reg mouthpiece) facing away from you, towards a hypothetical OOA diver. With your left hand, locate and insert your backup reg and breathe off of that. Then, loop the long hose back, put it over the back of your neck, drop the backup reg and reinsert the primary reg.

The mod-s ensures you have both of your regulator hoses routed correctly (if you put the long hose on before the backup, the hoses may get caught up in each other as you try to donate); that you've actually donned your octo necklace (I've forgotten before), and that your tank valve is open and both second stages are functioning (since you end up breathing off each during the drill).

Is this possible with a 5 ft hose (see OP) vs. a 7ft?

5ft is a long hose too, but for most people, you will not need to "tuck it" under anything - chances are you will simply be able to route it from the first stage, behind and under your right armpit, diagonally up across your chest and above your left shoulder, around the back of your neck to the right side of your head, and to your mouth.
