Hi -- I'm not a tech diver but would like to move in that direction with more training and experience.

My question is this...what exactly are the benefits of using a long hose on a primary second stage and having the octo on a necklace?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

The 7 ft long hose makes it possible for two divers to get through a restriction while sharing air, with the OOA diver leading and the donating diver trailing.

It also tends to make air sharing in general much easier and allows the two divers to swim to an exit point or deco stop and ascend in very close to a normal manner.

It also tends to be much more streamlined than conventional recreational hose routing.

In real world recreational diving the donating diver gets mugged for the primary most of the time so donating the primary makes sense as a standard practice.

In that regard a bungeed octo also makes sense as it is easy to locate, is not drug through the much or sand (helping ensure it is always ready for use) and it can often be accessed without using your hands if the bungee is the right lenght and properly mounted.

And...its better to donate a known working second stage (the one the donator just breathed from) when time is not on your side....vs one that was drug through the sand as DA mentioned.

DA and Otter -- thank you both for the info! It'll be very useful as I moeve along with my training.
