Anyone been there? Like to share your experience? Which operator would you recommend?

Most opertors are located on Gili Trawangan, the bigger of the islands. It is also the island with the healthiest coral (in relative terms) on the western shore.

Gili Air and Meno has a fringing reef around it, but badly bombed. Still there is a lot of macro life at certain spots.

The whole area is not deep with mild currents. Very relaxed style of diving, most operators there do 2 dives a day, up to you to request for more.

Was there last week, very easy dive unless you dive in the southern Lombok which is rough.

If you want nice reefs, dive Manado instead. Basically, the place had been “bomb out”.

Stay on Gili Trawangan, which is nice, without traffic, food is good, people are kind as compare to Lombok itself.

I was with Dream Divers, very pro and good. Another operator is Blue Marlin, heard they are good too. Not too sure about Dive-Indonesia and Manta Dive. Remember to book as a package (Dive & Accommodation) else per dive is about USD$25.

“Shark point” and “Deep turbo” is the best so far; another shallow site is nice and interesting - Air Wall.

Remember to go for the Waterfall and Village sightseeing tour, very educational and beautiful. Did not try the night dive as most DM aren’t keen, so am I. Must try the MAGIC MUSHROOM, 3 pieces will do unless you want to go to the MOON!

Fly direct from Singapore with SilkAir, you save a lot of time and cost about SGD$330. Bring along Liquor and Tobacco, the staffs will be delighted.

How was the diving in South Lombok ? Heard about a pinnacle where there is a good chance of seeing schooling hammerheads ?

The sea is too rough, no diving as it had been storming in Southern Lombok.
Saw some photo and had spoken to the local, the vis is bad, something like 5m, at most 15m and cold.

You want Hammerhead, try Layang Layang from late Feb till early July, been there and the vis is about 30 to 40m, freezing cold, about 22 in Feb last year.

The Magnet is that pinnacle you speak of and the only time I've seen the hammers are from Sept to Nov. They are pretty deep and at best there were at least 100 of them and least 20 everytime I've seen them... but not that often.
Many of the ops charge a bomb to dive from Sengigi. Better option is to do a private charter of a liveaboard and sit on it like I normally do. Nice macro life too.

Looking forward to return to Lembongan next season for the molas (missed the molas while there this month) thereafter to lombok hopefully to catch hammerheads. Any scuba addicts out there keen? Im looking at late aug early sept next year (2005)

saw on 3 occations hammerheads in gili selang the last 3mo. temp:23-24C
