My wife and I just returned from Bonaire about 1.5 weeks ago, wish we could have stayed longer (like most of us wish). It was our first of what we know will be many trips to Bonaire.
I just wanted to give a quick review of our accommodations. We stayed at Coral Paradise Resort, a smallish facility but very nice. If you are looking for a nice place away from the typical larger resorts this is a great option. They are small, but conveniently located near other larger resorts to be able to take advantage of their restaurants as well as close to town and great north end dive sites.
Coral Paradise is owned by Kenny and Margaret, 2 extremely friendly and helpful people who moved to Bonaire from New Orleans just a few years ago. Their rooms are well equipped with cooking utensils, nice beds, AC, cable TV, screen sliding glass door, room service twice per week and safe. They also come armed with the local knowledge of great restaurants. They even called to make reservations for us our first evening after discussing meal options. Oh, and they had our rental trucks ready at the Coral Paradise when we arrived from the airport via the prepaid taxi they had arranged.
They are also reasonably priced, less expensive than many of larger resorts nearby.
As far as diving goes, they work through Captain Don's to provide air, weights and any other equipment that is needed and Captain Don's staff treated us very well, just as I would expect to be treated if I was staying at their facility. Captain Don's is about a 3 minute walk from Coral Paradise or a 45 second drive.
The facility is also secure with a locked gate at night and deadbolt system on the front door. Kenny and Margaret seemed to spend a good portion of their day at the facility which also helps with security.
Highly recommend them and will be returning to their facility.
