Hello I am new to scuba board! I am currently working on getting my undergraduate degrees in Biology and Geology. My study concentration is marine ecology, and paleontology. I have also reciently began my career in Scuba Diving. I have found some rather impressive, by my standards, fossils. Anyways, I am planning to do a undergraduate research project next spring. I would like to collect my own samples via diving because that is just cool and i can combine my hobbies w/ my research and that would be simply AWESOME!!!!

So it comes down to this question:

where are some good locations in the South East to find fossils combined with an interresting dive? I am mostly looking for vertebrate animals, but mostly i'll take what i can get.

Anyways, can't wait to hear back from you guys!!!

the cooper river, many florida rivers, but especially offshore north carolina! there's a place called fossil ledge that sounds perfect for ya. i think the best place to get there from is wilmington, but if i'm wrong i'll be corrected.

The USC Archeology website has information on courses in maritime archeology as well as summer volunteer work and internships that get you hands on experience. These are mostly weekend classes. Don’t forget about getting your SC Hobby License, to keep it legal.

the cooper river for sure...

venice beach (fla.) has some nice fossils too

Absolutely Cooper River in South Carolina, seen hundreds of fabulous specimens pulled out of the water there. Apparently it's a daily treasure trove there. But I've also seen some great specimens from the Edisto River, SC as well.

Great thread!!
