My suit has the dump valve on the upper right arm, as opposed to the left where most are located. Is this a problem? Any thought/theories on valve location?

Thanks,

jv

Thats interesting. Well you wont be dumping the BC and suit at the same time will ya. Maybe its designed that you strictly use one or the other for bouyancy and you'll never dump both at once.

Not if you wear it backwards :D

I've never heard of that, and most everyone I've talked to say they only inflate their drysuit to relieve squeeze. If you dive that way, it'll be "inconvenient".

I have to agree with ya. I did most of my drysuit diving with a Padi instructor who religiously followed PADI specs for dry suit diving. I like using the BC but never did as to avoid conflict with my instructor. I hope to be semidry by weekend

it is placed on the right bicep for scooter diving.

Never did any of that. What's significant about relocating the dump?

Never seen that before. Did you buy your suit second hand? Or did you get it from your LDS or the internet?

I find that it would be awkward to raise my right arm to vent air as I am usually carrying a bulky multiple camera setup with that hand. It sounds crazy, but what if it was for a left-handed diver? I moved my dump valve to my wrist from my upper arm. I found that in it's old (upper arm ) position I couldn't always dump out as much air as I wanted too. There was always a pocket of trapped air behind my arm. Now, I raise my arm and every last bubble of air will vent out if I adjust the valve all the way open. They used to make more drysuits with the valve in the wrist, but it seems they stopped.- Maybe for some kind of safety reason? Anyways, I'm rambling..

jjsteffen:
as your right hand is on the scooter trigger, you can reach across with your free left hand to dump air.

So, you are advocating using the manual dump? If your left hand is free, wouldn't raising that hand (and having the dump be on your left arm [mine is on my forearm]) be just as easy?

Not having ever used a scooter, it would seem to me that whatever hand is in contact with it (you said the right hand, which uses the trigger) would normally be slightly lower than my shoulders, and thus not be where the air is, since the air will be at the highest point...and rolling slight left, to the free hand side, would be easiest, when needing to dump air...

But, I'm willing to learn...and would love to try a scooter at some point...

Is what I said what you mean?
