This is the first Im hearing that the lobsterman want the law in question because they are concerned for our safety. Also I thought the issue was that divers had to be a certain distance from a trap with the flag which was not mentioned in the artical. But going back to the safety issue; it then came out in the wash that they really were concerned not with our safety and that one lobsterman even had tried to run over a diver (hmm I had a similar experience in RI with a group of divers in the East Passage around the small island off Bull Point) - but brought up the true concern they are afraid that divers steal from their traps.

Solution is to double the punishment for anyone stealing a lobster from a trap and patrol the traps to see if it actaually happens. Get a stakeout going and throw the offenders in jail and fine em big time. If poaching is going on, its ruining for the divers who are natuaralists etc.

Just my thoughts in words.

Are there any lobsterladys ?
