Does Lobos permit dive teams of three? I would like to organize no-reservation dives during the week and assume an odd number of divers will occasionally show.

I would also like to create a contact list of divers that have the flexibility to dive during the week. I will assemble a group contact list that all of us can use to initiate dives. The hope is to cut through some of the red tape of Lobos dive planning. Someone has a day off, shoots off a group email, one or more people join them at the park gate and off we go. :coffee:

I believe and correct me if I am wrong that teams of three are not allowed but sometimes exceptions are made. It doesn't really matter anyhow since you pay by the person at the gate, unless you are getting reservations.

Official rule is negative. Limited to 15 teams per day and each permit team is for 2 divers.

With that being said I have actually dove Point Lobos several times as a team of 3. I always let the park ranger know in advance and I also pay and register as a team. Park rangers have never questioned it and have let me go every time. I think their main concern is keeping track of the teams, number of overall divers, and restrict solo diving.

Honesty is the best policy in my opinion and as I said, the rangers are always cool with it because we all dive together anyway. And this way they have a accurate head count.

Official rules: Point Lobos State Natural Reserve - Rules and Regulations

1. Diving permits are limited to the fifteen (15) teams on any one day. Each permit is for a team of two divers. Diving alone is not permitted. All divers must have a partner. Permits are only valid for the date issued.
