30-60 minutes travel to the sites? Not our experience at all.

One day we went to Ulong Island and dove all day at spots nearby and the last day we went to Jellyfish lake and then onto the Iro. Otherwise, we anchored in the middle of the channel and dove the spots around the compass at the islands you can see from the ship.

We did most of those places as well. However, the least amount of time we ever spent in a chase boat was 30 minutes.

Diving off the stern can be good, but also means you come back to the boat, not the boat comes to you.
I guess it depends on how far you decide you want to go & whether or not they have their chase boats/RIBs picking you up (which held true in the Red Sea).

You will see many creatures that are so amazing. I loved taking pictures. So many varied conditions - be very cautious when taking your camera in advanced conditions. Having it and your life for the next dive is worth leaving it topside for a dive. Read my somewhat scathing trip report regarding land operator - Sam's. http://www.ScubaBoard.com/showthread.php?t=133296&referrerid=25201 If that link does not work, Search for Trip Report Palau. Many people responded that there are other goodoperators like Fish & Fins, Neco marine etc. I have some photos in my gallery too. Napolean Wrasse were amazingly beautiful up close. So many creatures of all sizes to see.

Submariner, I would give vital organs to have a passport from our passive neighbors to the north! And you go and move to, of all places, the deep south??? Are you feeling okay?
Obviously not if you, as an SB staffer, would promote the Red Sea OVER Palau!! I like the Red Sea as well, especially the deep south bits, but over Palau?? I had to stop diving for 4 years after doing Galapagos, Cocos and Palau in the same year. And Palau was the reason. I'd simply seen it all! I'm feeling much better now...back in the water and just enjoying the peace and quiet.
Hope you have opportunity to get back North to some social medicine to have your head examined ;o)

I was on the BBE last winter. First L/A for me. I loved it. The weather was a little rough, but the drivers were great at picking us up. Food was fine. Staff caught tuna and we had shashimia lot. Yumm... Don't remember any long rides to dive sites. Rooms were really nice. Boat was spacious, had a hot tub too. (No time to use it tho) We were really well looked ater. Price was right too. Did the Ocean Hunter 2 last Nov. We booked the master suite, which is the way to go. From what I understand they are more expensive then the others but you get what you pay for. We loved it. Stayed 2 extra days in Palau after we got off the boat I highly recommend it.

Thank you for your detailed report. It is indeed an eye-opener. I am hoping to go to Truk and Palau next year and will definitely bear your comments in mind when choosing who to go with.

BBE is really great. Blue Corner is a dive of a lifetime. We had the choice of going there for a second dive. YEA! The only thing some people complained about was that the BBE didn't move around to a lot of different places. Didn't matter to me because we were so close to so many great sites. The two dive boats just took us where we wanted to go. Something that I liked, was that, because we had some choice of what boat we went on, there was a little more flexibility in dive sites. They really tried t cater to our wishes. Great crew!
