hi there does any one know about liveaboards in malaysia in the sipadan area in sept oct .
i search the web but it seems there are not alot of choices ?

cheers

walter,

M/V Celebes Explorer is the only LOB in that area that I am aware of.

You might want to consider the MV Celebes Explorer that dives Sipadan Island and several other islands in the vicinity of Sipadan. The link below is to my trip report from when we were on board her in '07.

Also, if you want to see some pictures from that trip and other previous trips just click on the Picasa link in my signature below and then select any of the Sipadan folders.

Good luck with your search.

Having lived and worked in that area, I always wondered why people would opt for a liveaboard.

From the resorts of Mabul, Kapalai and, the budget dive operators in Semporna, you will visit the same sites, do the same dives and have the same flexibility....but at less cost and more comfort.

Let me count the reasons:

  • 7 days of diving with up to 5 dives a day. 5 of the 7 days we did 5 dives a day.
  • 4 out of 7 days guaranteed diving at Sipadan (at least when we went in December '07)
  • 4 dives a day guaranteed at Sipadan Island on the days we dove there (weather permitting of course)
  • no small boat rides back and forth to Sipadan
  • opportunity to dive several islands I'd never been to in that area (Si-Amil [sp?] and Sibuan [sp?])
  • daily rate was comparable to what we paid for a follow-on stay at Mabul Borneo Divers Resort

Ya, think the cost of the LOB is comparable with some of the more upmarket land choices... We were considering the LOB for Layang Layang area for our last trip but the dates couldn't match...
