Up to now we've avoided the Red Sea thinking it's overcrowded but I guess we really should go there. I have no idea where to start with a liveaboard itinerary, I hear the Brothers, Elphistone, Thistlegorm and lots of others, then there's the far north, the deep south, Marsa Alam, Huirghada, Dahab, Sharm... the list goes on and on and I'm very confused and in need of advice from all you red sea lovers!!! We are interested more in the marine life and especially the big stuff and lots and lots of fish rather than wrecks. We just got back from the Rangiroa and Fakarava (French Polynesia) which was phenomenal and we've already done Thailand, Maldives, Oman etc etc. Would love to be in with a chance to see hammerheads cause I've yet to see one. Also whalesharks but I've no idea if you get those in the red sea. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all!!!!

OK then, thanks very much Red Sea Shadow. Any particular time of year better than others for a chance of seeing the most?

Depending on what time of year I would recommend different areas. There is a "Yearly Cycle" description on my website (WELCOME TO AZIAB) where you can find out some details. If it's the overcrowded dive site you want to avoid you should consider the absolutely brilliant itinerary called "Borderlands" where you go further south than St. John's almost sniffing the border to Sudan. I've done that trip five times this summer and I have seen one other boat... It's fantastic diving on reefs in mint condition and cool marine life like the Bumphead Parrotfish. I wrote about it in issue six of THE EQUALIZER

Hope it helps
