Maybe for bules, I have a hard time believing local DMs pull such salaries.
Okay, I live and work here since 1994. I can understand you think that I don't know what I am talking about. I wish you were right. And we could find good dive guides working for less than usd 20 per day (no live aboard, resort based, nights with family).

I am aware of that; I still find it hard to believe local LOB DMs (in remote Komodo no less) are paid almost $500 a month, when the minimum wage is not even $120 in Bali 🤔

when the minimum wage is not even $120 in Bali 🤔

When you say $120 isn't even the minimum wage in Bali, what specific industry are you referring to?...Or are you saying that it's the official minimum wage for every occupation in Bali?

Because I know for a fact, that the official minimum wage varies for each district in Bali. Eg. The official minimum wage for a hospitality worker in Badung Regency is higher than the minimum rate in Denpasar or Karangasem District, and these are official local government laws in Bali, Indonesia.

Yes minimum wages vary by regency. I was off a bit (or maybe it went up since I last checked). The minimum wage in Bali is about IDR 2.5M ($150) a month. This is for a relatively developed and more expensive region of Bali; I'd expect it would be less in remote areas like Komodo. Don't get me wrong, I'm for scuba industry professionals and other staff making fair appropriate wages, just wondering about the 7-8M figure in one post.

Minimum North Sulawesi: IDR 3.450.000 Per month. Add taxes, BPJS, transportation costs and meals. For not qualified workers, even without any experience. Not applicable for professional dive guides. High demand for good guides.
