Roatan Man & Undefined,
I really think you can't go wrong with either plan and after 'sorta' experiencing both options I can agree with both of you that CCV and West End are just two great options (of many) for divers in Roatan.

While diving (as guests) at CCV I got the feeling that, despite the diver conveniences that CCV/BIBR/AKR resorts have to offer, I really feel that I would have missed out had I not experienced the West End.

If you simply want to dive, then perhaps the AI option will be your most efficient option. As you will not search out dining options and will not have to lug your gear across the street or down the beach to the boat. However, you will miss out on experiencing Roatan and its' culture (IMO). Going out to eat one night at Gios or going on a canopy tour really doesn't allow you to 'taste' the island, but like I said if you just want to dive then you can't ignore the 24/7 diving that can be had at some of the AI resorts.

While I enjoy the company of fellow divers, it is also nice to mingle with the local cab drivers, water taxi captains and dive shop employees that are on every corner of the West End.

I guess the answer to go AI vs West End may be to just simply do a week in each... if it were only that easy ;)
