Not sure what this guy is, he was resting in the sand near Breakwater in Monterey, California at about 30 feet. He was alive but very content not to move, no matter how close I got. I've never seen one since.

i duno what he is.. but i dont know monteray fish.. if u cant find someone who can ID him... send the pic to some fish scientists... maybe its a new species? hehe ya never know.. u should name it after me if it is... :wink:

It IS a damn good picture of a kelseyfish..... (wink wink nudge nudge if its new species)
 
I'm betting it's a Short- spined Sea Scorpion. (Myoxocephalus scorpius) and then a juvenile. We have them around here but I don't know if they're indigenous to California or not.
