I'm a Fish!
We recently hosted a Lionfish roundup for the 25th anniversary of the Marine Parks system here in the Cayman Islands. All the fish caught were served to guests of the event at the George Town public library catered by Michael's Genuine restaurant. One of our visiting participants brought with him a new Lionfish capture device that we thought we would share with the public. Our hope is that this device will help other cullers capture Lionfish in a safe and very efficient manner. We removed 483 fish in two days!

Such a simple design - but very useful. Great video!

What a great solution! You could fill, attach a lift bag and have surface support pick up the full cannisters. I'd like to know how many divers you had wrangling and how many hours - 483 fish is an impressive catch.

Hey Jersey

We had 8 cullers on our team and we were responsible for roughly 150 of the total fish. They were taken from 4 dives over a two day period. We were drift diving the north wall "Spanish Bay to North West Point". Awesome dives!
In case anyone is interested, you can now have fresh Lionfish almost anytime at Michael's Genuine in Caymana Bay. They are buying them from local divers for 4$ per pound!

Very cool! Thanks for the info and I look forward to cooking up some Lionfish during my next trip, just booked, late September. Staying at 7 MB Resort condo, across the way and will be in to see and dive with you.

After killing a bunch of these things, I finally chowed down on a couple. Diving off Brac last week, we scored two nice-sized lions off Schoolhouse reef. Finned 'em, cleaned 'em, and marinated 'em in a little garlic and lime, salt/pepper. Most people pan-fry them but I was grilling dinner so we put them on as an appetizer.

Very mild so most of the flavor comes from the marinade/spice. But they were good. Gotta watch that ciguatera, though.
