A few weeks back Scubasarus, Mstudley and I spotted a juvenile lionfish.

In real-life I work for NOAA, and I was talking to someone there about the sighting and it turns out that NOAA has a program to track lionfish on the East Coast of the US because it is an invasive species. I contacted the person running that project (Paula Whitfield) and told her about our sighting and our fish was the furthest north of the reports she has received so far.

If anyone else should happen to see one, I am sure she'd like to hear about it. Here is the NOAA website with info:

Wow I'm really surprised I spotted the furthest north lion fish reported to NOAA. Incredible. Thanks for letting me know of my fabulous feat.

LOL

Thanks for the info Chris it was the neatest find I ever came across. Actually RI Ogpher was deep inside the cave we discovered when I spotted the fish.

Yeah yeah, you saw it first. I am having your medal fashioned as I type this. ;)

You should start diving solo, that way you won't have to share your sightings with any dive buddies. :D
