October 2010 Diving in Roatan and Belize NO FISH!! Take a look at my video of the dives and see if you can find a fish larger that 8 inches The oceans are dying

Ummmm. Well, my take on not seeing any big fish is that both Belize and Roatan are well known for the subsistence fishing that takes place there. Anything bigger than a hand is eaten. This has been well known for many years, and you don't go to Roatan or Belize for the big fish, you go for the coral. If you want to see big fish, go to where they are protected, like the United States.

Sorry you were disappointed. Unfortunately, diving one day from a cruiseship doesn't allow you to see the best diving at Roatan and Belize.

Big fish is definitely NOT Roatan's strong point. However, it's does have some very good macro subjects, healthy corals and interesting swim-throughs.

If you want to see animal life bigger than 8 inches in Belize, it's best to go on a liveaboard.

Here is a video of south shore Roatan diving.

I watched your video --- here is the link:

and I see several large fish... grouper, barracuda and eel. But Roatan is not famous for big fish, as Ronscuba says, it is best known for macro life. Did you stop anywhere and look at macro life? Or did your DM for your cruiseship group just fin along not pointing anything out? We saw at least one seahorse each day there, as well as several types of blennies and gobies we have never seen anywhere else in Caribbean. But there, we were there a whole week and not diving with a cruiseship dive op. My favorite thing about diving Roatan, besides the macro life, is the dramatic reef structure! The coral is very healthy and all types of soft coral, hard coral, and sponges in every shape and size. I don't rate diving by how many big fish I see... there is so much else to see when diving to limit like that.

id rather look at coral myself.. Look at all the cool coral and sps's .... Id be happy just to go there and dive, or snorkel with the economy we have right now ... be thankful you even got to go there , and have a camera to make memories..
