FWIW I use a pair of Sola 2000 lights to illuminate the caverns I dive in frequently and in most cases it is overkill but if you're in open water you may need something much brighter than 2000 lumens. If you shop around you can normally get a good deal on Ebay if you know what you're looking for.
Recently on a dive with a friend of mine he brought a pair of Big Blue VL7500P and they almost lit up the entire cavern at Blue Grotto, they were fantastic lights that are a fraction of the cost of getting the L&M Sola lights.
