Just got my Sony HDR-HC9 and my Amphibico housing should be at my door by the end of the week ... next step is the light ... my budget is busted long time ago with my new slr rig so ...

i found only 2 choices for the money i have left ( 0$ :shakehead:)

the Amphibico Discovery 10w HID or
Sea & Sea LX-33 33W

any recomendation about those two lights ?

Thanks

the Anphibico is 850$ + the sony batteries so ...950$
and the sea and sea is 650$

Any reason just these 2 ?

There have been a few lighting threads over the last several months. Might be worth reading if you want other options.

It depends what kind of water you are using it in.

If it's green murky water like we have here in CA, then get as much light as you can afford. If it's bluer, clearer water then you may get away with less.

For caves & CA water, I have been using dual Salvo 24W and am upgrading to dual 50W as the 24's are not enough.

You can never have too much light!

But also be realistic about what you are lighting. Even dual 50's are only going to penetrate 10 feet or so in most water.

If you can borrow lights before forking over $1k+, that would be a good idea.

well ...if its possible to borrow hid lights in your area here where I live
the only light i can borrow its a C4 ...

i will use it in the st lawrence river and ontario lake in wrecks during summertime and
in the carribean during winter so every condition ...but no caves .

i have an OMS Phantom hid 10 watts but the beam is too narrow I think.

i will try to read all the post related to lights ...

thanks

I was led to these lights from another SB member.

They are made by "Brightstar" out of Taiwan.

It's called a Darkbuster

I think I paid around $450 for it from Kalex, Inc. (408) 661-2668

You'll also need the YS adapter to connect it to a lighting arm.

Hope this helps

How well do these balance out underwater?

Darkbuster looks interesting.

24w HID is powerful and the specs listed on that link say 1.7 oz negative in the water, 3.3 lbs out of the water. The near neutral buoyancy sounds good, but 2 of them would be over 6 lbs. out of the water attached to the housing. $450, would be interested to see how wide the beam spread is and if they are difficult to use.
