+1 on Intova lights. I have a few as backups to my Light Monkey can light and put out a lot of light.

Personally I was very turned off by the handsock method of holding the light. I carry one of those pistol grip lightswhich has a red bulb and a white bulb. I find the red light doesn't scare off the critters then for a better look I switch to the white light. To each his own. I have half a dozen lights, from cheapo $35 dollar models that I carry in my pocket for all dives, night or day (peeking under ledges and in crannies) and I don't really notice a difference by the dollar. On a night dive in the red sea a few years ago one of the divers had a super light with separate battery. It put out an unbelievable light. Scared every thing in the ocean away.
