Incidentally, we covered the search and light salvage chapter in class last night, so afterward, I asked the instructor about lift bag technique. He agreed wholeheartedly with the right way to use a lift bag, and he was equally of the opinion that the get negative and kneel advice was completely wrongheaded.
(I didn't tell him where I'd been told that advice... gotta have a little diplomacy. Still, if I happen to ever be told the same thing by the same guy, it'll definitely be time for a throwdown.
