Hello.

Where is the best place to store a lift bag when wearing a dry suit and thick gloves? I would like to avoid a "dangly" and stay streamlined and DIR. I have a Halcyon backplate and the lift bag is supposed to go inside it (between my back and the plate), but I'm not sure how well I will be able to get to it with a dry suit and big gloves on.

Any suggestions or alternative locations?

thanks,

brrr......

I have two loops of bungy on the lower edge of my plate , have my lift bag rolled lengthwise (at full width) and tucked into the two loops so it rides horizontal, below the plate, just slightly wider than the plate.

With 7mm gloves I have no problem deploying a lift bag stored in the Halcyon MC pack. Simply hook the bolt snap on to the butt D-ring. When you unhook the bolt snap simply pull the bag down and out. Give it a try before you dismiss this option.

Is there a certain way to fold the lift bag? I have the Halcyon cc 80lb lift bag and the inflator interferes with properly storing it in the MC storage pak. I did not have this problem an oc style lift bag.

Thanks

Sean

Sean,

Lay the liftbag on a flat surface. Make sure all the air is out of it. (I unscrewed the cap off the dump valve to empty the bag - after rinsing/drying it post-dive. I fold the bag with the cap off and then screw it back on just after folding the bag.)

The boltsnap will hand down beneath the MC Pack and clip onto one of your D-rings (crotch strap or waist-D).

Basically the inflator stem is going to fit inside the channel in your plate. Fold one side in to about 3-4" short of the stem, either left or right - doesn't matter. Repeat with the other side. The fold both together over one another to make a single long package about 4" across. The valve cap and the inflator stem are at the bottom, beneath the folds. I've got the 300, so needed to fold the long package in thirds so it would fit into the MC Pack. Screw the cap back on the dump valve, and slide it up inside the MC Pack. Clip off the bolt snap where its easy for you to reach. Thats about it.

Thanks Doc! I had been folding mine the way it came from Halcyon and it does not fit in the MC storage pak. I tried your folding method last night and it is much better

no worries, dude.

A friend of mine who is much younger and skinnier than I am used to hook the bolt-snap to his crotch strap D-ring. When we did 'shoot-a-bag' drills, from the basic "skydiver" position in the water column he could just reach down, un-snap the bolt clip, and pull the lift bag out of the MC Pack basically between his legs. Tres slick. (I was of course much more ungainly...like a hippo doing ballet...)

Good luck with your deployment drills,

Doc

+1

I carry one of the H 300 lb liftbags folded inside the MC pack with the boltsnap attached to my left side D. I put one of the 6' SMBs in my right thigh pocket.

The MC pack works fine in cold water. As RJP said, give it more of a try.

Are you sure that you do not have a 100 lb. bag 300 lb. is dam big!
