Gov issued warning has no meaning to me. Otherwise I will spend all my free time watching TV or porn!
As long as my travel insurance is valid for the travelling. I am set to go.

HKSAR Gov had issued the highest travel warning to Philippines many yrs ago. My travel insurance and DAN were OK and the fare were dirt cheap because of poor demand. Best time to travel to Philippines and I meant it. The warning was lifted eventually!!! Stupid and unnecessary.

Be advised the CDC/State Dept Level 4 Travel Advisories apply to 80% of the world!
There are three problems:
(1) the rules for getting on the list are not that hard to satisfy, and the rules for getting off the list are quite hard to satisfy.
(2) the rules are designed for large countries, not little island states, so places like Bonaire (for example) get screwed.
(3) the lists for Level 4 are not reviewed and updated all that often; in fact, CDC says they'll do it at least every 6 months.

@dierenarts Keep in mind that the State Department Level 4 for the Maldives is for COVID19. The advisory for Terrorism is "Exercise increased caution in Maldives due to terrorism." which equates to a Level 2 advisory.

you should check out the travel restrictions on the US from other countries. puts things in perspective.

keep your head on a swivel, don't go where you don't belong, don't appear like you're worth any ransom, and you should be fine.

travelling anywhere is usually safer than going to a Walmart or church here in the states. or, for that matter, just being brown.

not trying to be political. just saying that things are often overblown on those state department travel alerts
.

"not trying to be political"

....instantly makes it political...

i know, right? its like saying, "I could be wrong, but..." all the time.

You know what? I changed my mind. We live in a country where wearing a mask or getting vaccinated has become political. The cornucopia of lies being strewn around is politics driven. Media is politicised. Its all political now.

Flat out, its more dangerous being a black person in the US than slow riding a bicycle through Beirut with an American flag strapped to your ass.

There. I said it. I feel better now. Thank you and goodnight.

You guys are a funny bunch, with your hysteria and all.

Turn the CNN off, go outside, take your masks off and go interact with your community.
Well this is Asia forum.
What you do not know do not know!
Which country in Asia would let you do that ie no mask?
In HK it is HK$5,000.00(US$640.00) fine.

Stuff your advice. My best friend from high school tried that. He's in an ICU right now.

anyone else reconsidering travel to Maldives? US State Department website has Maldives at Level 4 "do not travel" citing terrorism attacks at travel hubs and even remote atolls

I haven't looked up all of those locations, but if I did, I imagine that I would find that the Level 4 rating for them would be due to COVID19, not because of a Terrorist or similar security threat level.
