I use them to help with swimmer's ear. My right ear is very suseptable to it and tried a dive with just the right one in... I had swimmer's ear in my left ear!!! I love mine and have no problem equalizing at any depth. Living in the warm water, I do not want to wear a hood, so these guys are my favorite option.
 
just cant see how it makes all that all that much diff in equalizing. If it works for you it works for you I guess. :)
 
no personal experience however i dove with a divemaster when myself and son got certified and he reccomended doc pro plugs for my son. he told me that he used them for alot of dives when he first got certified because he was having ear problems. he spoke very highly of these plugs. try them and let us know.
 
The small vent hole design of the vented proplug allows for a safer and in most cases easier equalization. This is probably due to entry into the water with a canal full of warm air which puts you in a less stressful mindset. Without the discomfort of water in the canal and pain of cold water in the ear drum some people can equalize more efficiently, others have developed techniques from experience...
