Here's the story. The owner and operator of my local LDS was taking a private party out for some dives in a nearby lake in Oklahoma (we are from North Central Texas). The group geared up and my friend (the LDS owner, who is also an instructor) headed for the water. In doing so, he had to pass a fairly large boulder that was about four feet from the water's edge. As he passed the big rock, he saw a flash of movement from underneath the overhanging rock--he had been struck by a four foot diamondback rattlesnake!
The other members of the party got him de-geared and he was transported to the nearest medical facility, about 20 minutes away. He was treated and then transported to a more local hospital. He's doing well and was in great spirits yesterday evening. He even called because he had promised a vis report on the lake and he noted "I don't have too much to report. We never even got in the water!"

Now to explain the tagline on the top of this thread: DAN keeps all sorts of stats on diver injuries. I wonder if they have a category for THIS!

I don't think DAN will keep this stat. While he was wearing dive gear, he didn't get injured while diving or because it was the after effect of diving.

Wow, glad he is OK. Was this Lake Murray? Anyone with him certified as a Emergency Responder?

Well maybe they'll say to keep an eye out for snakes.

Dutchman,
Nope...Lake Elmer Thomas. I talked with him tonight and they just hung a bag with the twelth unit of antivenin. Other than that, he's doing fine, all things considered.
