As scuba instructors, we often take pride in saying, “I teach scuba the right way!” Confidence is crucial, but when it leads to criticizing other instructors—especially from different agencies—it can harm not only your reputation but also the perception of the industry.

Why Collaboration Matters:
🔹 We All Have Room to Grow: No instructor is perfect. Learning from others’ strengths, rather than fixating on flaws, helps everyone improve.
🔹 Professionalism Counts: Criticizing peers in front of students is unprofessional and reflects poorly on the scuba community.

Adopt a Positive Approach:
✅ Learn from Others: Spot strengths in your colleagues’ methods and incorporate them into your own.
✅ Give Encouraging Feedback: Instead of pointing out what’s “wrong,” highlight what’s working and suggest ways to build on it.

A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats:
By supporting each other, we raise the bar for training, create a stronger community, and help students receive the best possible education.

The next time you observe another instructor, ask yourself:
  • What can I learn from them?
  • How can I offer feedback that uplifts?
Let’s focus on collaboration over competition and inspire the change we want to see. Together, we can elevate the scuba diving profession for the benefit of all.

What are your thoughts? How do you approach collaboration with fellow instructors?

This is exacly the way BSAC brings on new instructors, then develops they to acive whatever level they want; including drafting new course material from Ocean Diver to Trimix diving in the depths.

The same way that DiveISC.com does with their IT and Examiner mentorship program. All to build the industry.
