Lens shade? what for?

Just got my new 6082 housing, and found this lens shade that should be attached to the camcorder, but I wonder why is this ?, my other ikelite housing 6038.30 did not had it.
-What would be the results if I dont use it?,

The lens shade blocks reflections from the sun so that they do not show up on your video. We do not recommend using without the lens shade installed.
