Has anyone come across a lens cover for the Canon housing (WP-DC40)? While there is a protective silver (plastic?) rim, I'm worried about it getting scratched carrying around and especially being dumped into camera boxes on boats with everyone else's cameras. The diameter is about 50cm. Been looking around my house to see if there is anything that could be converted into a lens cap.

When I got my new Canon housing I was really worried about the 'lens' and tried all sorts of things to make a protective cover. Never made anything work so I gave up.

Now I have been on a bunch of trips with it - including lots of robust shore diving - and have never got a scratch on it. I always put it in a bag when I pack it but no other precautions. It seems to be particularly tough. Also, with a refractive index close to water, small scratched will pretty much disappear.

My advice - relax and don't worry about it. IF you really want to do something I would get your local wetsuit customizer to makee a stretchy cover out of 2mm neoprene and bungee it to the wrist lanyard base.

After about 150 beach dives on my WP-DC700 housing, there's not a scratch on the lens. The metal ring, however, is beat to hell.

I think Grajan is right in saying don't sweat it. Besides, I'd be worried about trapping sand up against the lens or blocking the little weep holes.
