Hi again,

I went on to the Liesure Pro website. They have great deals on dive gear, and the OMS stuff I am looking at is almost $200.00 cheaper than my LDS.

I contacted OMS and was told that Liesure Pro is not an authorized dealer for OMS and many other products on thier site. OMS said they will not honor the warranty on Liesure pro listings of thier products.

Does anyone out there use Liesure Pro for gear purchasing?

I am starting to think it may be best just to give my give the extra $200. to my LDS and at least be assured I have proper warranty coverage. I am starting to wonder if there is a safety issue with buying from sites like that.

Are there any decent authorized discount dealers recommended?
Is it better to just buy from my LDS?

Leisure Pro offers their own warranty which they state is equivalent to the manufacturers. The details are on their website.

I have purchased several items from LP and sofar have been very happy with their service. The other way to look at this is that you would need more than $200 worth of repairs to be "worse off".

LP has their own warranty on merchandise that is
purchased through them...DI is an authorized
dealer of merchandise....either way if something
goes wrong you still have to send the item
back rather than just hopping in the car and going
to your LDS....ask your LDS if they can give you something
else like air fills to make up for the cost difference....doesnt
hurt to ask...

If you can afford the difference, or if your LDS will bend some on their price (don't ask them to match it, they have overhead!), buy from the LDS.

Leisure Pro is not going to fill your tanks, offer the advanced training you want, give advice on local dive sites, and help you network to find additional dive buddies. They also won't offer same-day repairs and loaner equipment if a repair takes longer so that you can dive when you want to.

The LDS depends on the equipment sales and profit margin to stay in business!

That's the important part to me, finding an LDS that has a crowd of good people to dive with is nice, the LDS staff is considerate and honestly explains answers to questions I have is kinda cool too, helping me understand the logic behind those answers and apply it to my set up is ok I suppose, referring me to good dive sites, good dive buddies, and holding me a spot on charters until I get a chance to confirm is good sure, letting me sneak my kit into the shop when I'm missing the right tool in my sav-a-div is lucky sometimes especially if I'm in between dives and an hour from home, letting me dive the gear I'm interested in a few times to see how it works out in real world application is pretty ok, diving with me to see firsthand the problems I'm trying to articulate and helping me realize the "dialed in" solution is kinda cool, getting to know the tech doing my repairs and getting to see it done firsthand is a little reassuring I think, not to mention the DVDs constantly playing or the mass assortment of PS2 games in the media room that are pretty fun when I can't find anyone to go diving with except the shop-monkey who doesn't get off work for another hour or two.....

But man, $200 bucks off...that's the gravy.

Theskull & Wingtip have a good point.

I think it will be a better idea to weigh the long term benefits of dealing with a LDS rather than the short term deal from the internet.

Come to think about it, the guys at the LDS are very helpful and will probably let me try out some geat before I buy.

Thanks for the advice!

(This is a pretty cool web site! It is great to be able to have honest feedback from fellow divers.)

Here's another way to look at it. I've purchased some of my gear from Leisure Pro, including OMS equipment. I support my LDS as often as possible, however, in some instances especially if there's a $200.00 difference, I give the LDS a chance to meet me halfway. If not I'll buy from Leisure Pro and use the money I saved to buy additional gear from my LDS. Most of my dive gear was purchased via my LDS and there are some things like my regs I would not buy over the internet. I like to support my LDS as often as possible, on the other hand I want the most for my dollar as well.

the rest online. The compass was a timing issue, but I specifically wanted to buy the reg and BC at my LDS for service reasons. Just something to consider...

More good points to consider.

Thanks

I've actually used LiesurePro's warrenty. They just asked me to bring in the manufacturors warranty (to expedite things), read it, and honored it.
