Most dealers will not service gear bought from LeisurePro for that reason.
How would a dealer know if you bought something from LP??

I would think hard about buying "life support" equipment as you never know what you will get or how long it has sat on a shelf before LP purchased it. It could be several years old and need immediate servicing or worse.
What, and the same isn't true for any other on-line retailer, or even an LDS?

I know a person who wanted to buy a Suunto dive computer from LeisurePro as it was $300 cheaper than our LDS. He got one, but it was in bar not Psi and no manual.
If someone is too dumb to figure out how to set their computer to PSI instead of bar, maybe they should find a new hobby - like golf.

...plus you can download the manuals from suunto.com

How would a dealer know if you bought something from LP?

Well if you ask them to do warranty service, they would ask for your purchase proof and/or warranty card

Be aware the Scuba Toys will give you a 10% discount if you call and let them know you are a SB member (at least they used to)

I e-mailed them recently mentioning I was a SB member (based on posts here mentioning the discount) - no discount was offered. I don't have a problem with that, as their prices are competitive

But I chose to buy from LP instead - they had the exact same items, and while the item prices were the same, the shipping (to Australia via UPS) was cheaper from LP (if ST had offered a 10% discount, the overall price would have been slightly less, and I would have bought from them instead)

In fact I should say that the only reason I started shopping on price against ST was that the shipping 'quote' from the website was more than double the actual shipping price (that Joe quoted me when I e-mailed and asked him for clarification)

I'm getting hammered enough on the current US$-AU$ exchange rate as it is without spending extra money on shipping :(

I sent Joe from ST an e-mail to let him know the reason for my decision - I have not received a reply; although I must say he was very prompt with his other responses

Yeah, LP tried to screw me on shipping too. Wanted something like $25 to send a $5 item.

You almost always get screwed on shipping as soon as they hear the magic word, "Alaska".

Actually I said that Scubatoys was more expensive than Leisurepro - although they both have a minimum shipping cost, which means that international orders of $5 items are not going to be cost effective either way

I e-mailed Leisurepro about the same issue, and got told to order more gear to make it worthwhile

Fair enough, and I did

My complaint is not about shipping cost per se, my complaint is when they insist on shipping by some expensive method, when they could put it in the USPS mail for under $1 - or whatever. If I'm paying for shipping, then I should be able to dictate how it is shipped. If the vendor wants to pay for the shipping, then by all means, then them decide how to ship it.

Just bought all new gear.

Today I just received an exciting package from Leisure Pro. Beautiful tulsa split fins, atomic frameless mask, boots, gloves, & hood. Everything just as ordered, every thing in mint conditon!

My BCD, reg, & computer came from my LDS!

Yes, we will match any price, or give the 10% off - no problem. Joe is visiting his mother in Nevada, and will be back on Monday, but if you want to shoot an email to larry@scubatoys.com, I can try to help as well. And we get a pretty good discount with UPS international shipping - so when we work out the order, and apply our UPS discounts - it is many times cheaper than what the cart defaults to. Again - just shoot me an email if you need to know some pricing.

I don't know if the "they" in this was pointed toward us or LP since the thread is now going back and forth... but for us, we can ship any method someone wants - it's just we have run into so many problems shipping by US Postal - and if a package goes missing, it is much longer to track down what happened, and much longer to get paid on the insurance. UPS gets there fast - and if they do drop the ball (which is very infrequent that we've experienced) they take care of it immediately.

But we do have some people that want to go by other methods, and we'll take care of that.

For example, going to Australia - mail can be about half of UPS, but takes a few weeks at times instead of 2-3 days.

How would a dealer know if you bought something from LP??

I don't have first hand knowledge, but I am told that if you try to get a battery replacement or a service on a Suunto that was bought on grey market, the store will check it against a database, and if you are not on the white list then they will not do it.

No idea if that is true or not, but my own experience in situations like this is that it is rarely a problem that a couple of Jacksons cannot square away.
