Greetings,

New guy here. I'd previously posted this to another thread... reposting to a new thread hoping for some input on Leisure Pro's reg servicing...

I'm looking at buying a Scubapro Mk17/S600 and the Leisure Pro price is certainly enticing (my LDS can't come close). While I knew that LP provides their own warranty, I was wondering about Scubapro's free parts for life deal which apparently only applies to regs bought through an authorized dealer. I called LP and they say that in addition to a warranty, they will also provide free parts for life. Of course one has to send the reg in to LP for service (they pay for shipping one way). Anyone have experience with LP's service and turnaround time? Assuming it's up to standards, the only downside I see is the cost of shipping the reg to them. Thoughts?

Hi, and welcome!

I bought a Sherwood reg from LP a few years ago. At that time, Sherwood offered free annual service (with parts) for two years as part of their warranty, if the reg is serviced at an authorized dealer. LP specified that they'd also honor that.

I sent the Sherwood reg in to LP for its first annual service. They appeared to do a very nice job, and returned all the used parts in a baggie. But they charged me for the parts. I had to e-mail them and remind them of the Sherwood-equivalent deal; they apologized, and immediately credited the cost of the parts back to me.

Turnaround time was very reasonable, considering the shipping time -- couple or three weeks if I remember.

I've been having annual services done here locally since then, but that's just because it's more convenient and cheaper -- and the service guy here locally is really super.

Thanks for the info. I've been out of the sport for about 20 years and am grappling with the pros and cons of buying a reg online so this data point helps.

I thought authorized Scuba Pro dealers were not allowed to sell over the internet. They can only sell face to face???

someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

You are correct, authorized Scuba Pro dealers are prohibited from selling on the world wide web. The majority of the Scuba Pro items that Leisure Pro has for sale are bought in Asia and Europe. SP has been working hard to dry these sources of gear up. If you buy SP gear from LP, you will be dependent on LP for warranty service on you gear. I don't agree with SP's policy, but that's how it is. :palmtree: Bob

The advantage of buying your ScubaPro reg from an authorized SP dealer is that

1) the parts (when you have your reg serviced) are free for life, as long as you have the regs serviced at least annually.

2) the SP dealer that does service - has technicians who have been trained by ScubaPro to do the service.

These are valuable points in my opinion... making your LDS the best option, even if you pay a bit more than you do online, since I hope to have my Mk25/s600 for many years.

Howdy,

1) Well, LP also provides free parts for life -- They claim to offer a warranty equivalent to the manufacturer's warranty and so far I haven't seen anyone dispute that.

2) Are you saying the LP technicians are not qualified? I'm guessing they are but I don't really know how good they are, which is why I started this thread. The fact is, regulator work isn't rocket science. Again, so far, I haven't heard anyone complain about LP's service and their service cost is very reasonable, even factoring in that you have to pay for shipping one way.

I'm all for LDSs. At a minimum, we need them for air ;) and I certainly sympathize that they are in cases victims of a system set up to maintain artificially high retail prices. However, I suspect that things are quickly changing and I hope the LDs find a way to remain competetive.

All I'm saying is that authorized SP dealers are trained by SP themselves. I realize it isn't rocket science. There are some things that I would consider buying from Leisure Pro - but I don't think ScubaPro is one of them.

Since Leisure Pro is not an authorized dealer of Scubapro, there is no guarantee that they will be able to get the parts to give you free. They are telling you they will give you as good a warranty to make a sale. They can not offer as good a warranty as Scubapro. Case in point; 2 years down the road, the yoke on your reg breaks. Is it covered by Leisurepro? No, but it is by Scubapro. You will save more than the cost difference by buying from an authorized dealer. Think the purchase all the way through instead of just saving a few bucks today.
