hi, i got an led bulb for my dive light & it works ok. it was a straight swap. MR 16 halogen changed for MR 16 led unit. its no way as bright as halogen but there is an upside i think. it does not generate any significant heat so should be ok out of water, (you know, kitting up in the dark n all that!) the led unit is not so fragile & the burn time is huge. i had it in a bucket of water in the garage today for 6 hours & it still looked bright so as you had to squint to look at it (not so scientific i know!) i just tried a 35 watt halogen back in it & only got just over 1 hour. i guess the answer is to go dive to see if its bright enough.

hi, sorry for delay. i found the bulb at a company called SCREWFIX. its a do everything company for the construction industry. i also looked at EBAY. lots of choice. the limiting factor is the size of the replacement unit, while they are a straight swap a lot are just a bit longer than the standard bulb. do some carefull measuring & you will be ok. i used the light last fri on a night dive off the south coast. the LED is no way as bright as halogen but its redeamning factor is that you can turn it on in the car park (which at 22.00hrs is totally black!) & see where to go down shingle beach without losing burn time. the vis on dive was poor but the LED cut thru gloom as well as halogen & with a nice white light. i would not use the LED on a day time dive tho, but is only a 30 second swap to go back to halogen. cheers. phil.

yes, your absolutely right, better light modules are out there, but they wont fit inside my torch, i know led lights are good but the point i was making is that when you dive & the vis is only 1.5mtrs you dont need 50watts coz itll just shine right back at you. i now have the option to change when needed(shame it cant be done during dive tho!) . a daytime dive needs more light for nooks and crannies but when its a night dive the led seems fine. lets face it a night dive off the beach in the u.k this time of year is not going to give you great vis. i would love a new high power led light but i just cant afford it!! so you make do.
