I was just checking out Dive-Rite's web page and saw their new LED 300 canister conversion. It consists of the LED 300 Hand-held Lighthead attached to a female adapter which, in turn, is attached to a cord and battery canister. Activation is still twisting the lighthead. Has anyone used this system? Is this DIR compliant?

The things you need to be careful about in a LED primary light (well, all primary lights) are

- ability to signal with the light.
- ability to penetrate the waters you dive in (if your light is significantly weaker or penetrates less than your buddies, you will have a hard time signaling them if you are behind them)

For a light to be good at signaling, it needs to give you a tight beam in the water. The initial LED's were not known for this ability as they were made up from multiple smaller LED's which spreads the beam out.

Also, LED's have not been known for their ability to penetrate darker water.

For me, LED will almost certainly be the way forward at some point, but I dont feel that it is quite there yet. There are a lot of new LED lights coming though, and at some point they may well outperform HID lights.

Oxycheq imports an LED primary made by Solus, a company in Ireland. There's information on their web site, and a lot of discussion on The Deco Stop as to whether LED primaries are ready for prime time.

I've owned mine since last May,but the canister conversion won't be available for awhile. I have been very pleased with it,very reliable. It provides light similar to a 10w
HID.

A 10w + is dir so if that is the case it's dir.

My friend built his own LED cannister light, and it blows away my Salvo 10 watt HID. His LED works great underwater for all required light tasks.
