Thanks! So of the two models, you're using the Dive Rite Goodman (#LT6124)?

i am using the lt 6124 H ...the one with the screw mount. i leave the goodman handle on when i use the light in the handheld as well as the canister version. works well for me.

Is there a specific goodman handle that Dive Rite makes for the LED 500? It was not obvious to me looking at the product info online. If not, is there a goodman design that others have found that works well with this light?

Fritz, how has your experience been with the LED 500 in FL open water dives?

Thanks!
Salvo has a snap on handle that works fine with the DR 500 lumen light.

I bought the cord to allow me to use my back up light as a lightweight no charger required light for travel to pretty fish and less technical wreck diving.

I am probably spoiled by higher output cannister lights used in wreck and cave diving, but I thought the 500 lumen light was a little weak and lacked the ability to penetrate any significant degree of silty/low viz water when I took it to NC for off shore wreck diving.

I like both the 10 W HID and 700 Lumen LED a lot better.

I have 3 of the LED500 lights for guiding in caves and caverns. All most of my guides use the light with a goodman handle and no cord/adaptor . We tied a bungee loop through the lanyard hole on the back of the light and adjust the bungee to fit the guides arm to keep the light from swinging back and forth. With this configuration none of the guides want to use the cord and adaptor anymore - well except for Natalie because she is so small that the bungee would be tied around her shoulder.

Interesting. You don't happen to have any pics showing your configuration do you, Dennis?

I appreciate your follow-up reply Apex. I'm going to try to find one of these handles.

Your comments - - both on the Salvo handle and the light output -- are really helpful DA. I'm thinking of the LED 500 as a short term option until funds allow for a proper canister primary. Then this flashlight can become a great backup.

Thanks Dennis, this is great info!

FWIW, the current issue of Scuba Diving magazine (Jan/Feb '09) has a comparison that includes the LED 500 (28 New Dive Lights). For this article, they include the exposure value numbers from a digital light meter measured in a darkened room six feet away from a white screen. They include the hot-spot center reading and also 12 inches out from the center. The LED 500 EV hot spot was 8.8, with a reading of 5.9 at the radius. The tested burn time was 12 hours at full, 20 hours at diminishing power. Sartek EBL 6600, UK AquaSun eLED, Princeton Tec, and Hartenberger Nano had higher hot spot measurements, and most had a higher EV number at the radius too. Only the Sartek had a similar form factor to the LED 500, was a bit weaker at the radius and only 3-4 hours at full power.

I appreciate all of the feedback, I've got a LED 500 on order and will be trying it out with a goodman. Thanks!

Since I started this thread I thought it would be worthwhile to mention that I ended up not having to decide on configuration, because I took advantage of a great DiveRite Express deal to get the LED500 light, with the wired/canister kit, the holster, and the bolt-on Goodman handle, altogether in a hard case, for about the cost of the LED500 all by itself!

The holster fits fine on my BCD (SeaQuest ProQD), so I'm planning on taking it along on every dive - never know when a little more light might help. I'll use the Goodman mount in corded/canister mode for the occasional night dive or cavern when I know I'll be needing it the entire dive.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. This looks like a very well-made light and I'm looking forward to getting it wet for the first time next weekend... and most weekends thereafter!
