Thinking of the Posada Arco Iris, Cocolobo, or the Blenny House/ Cabins. Any of these places likely to have fewer sand flies than the others? I'm guessing that being away from the beach and having a breeze will be helpful. We tend to get absolutely tortured by the little fiends.:yelling:

Blenny's house and Cocolobo are next door to each other, they are on the iron shore and reasonably bug free. Arco Iris is much nearer a beach and therefore likely to be more prone to sand flies.

The most important thing is to rinse off the salt after swimming in the sea, they love that. I have found that i get bitten less after i have been in a pool, maybe the chlorine helps. The only place on your list with a pool is Cocolobo.

i got back almost a week ago from Roatan and i'm still itching. I used Jungle Juice from REI daily and still got hit a few times pretty bad. I think it was from one morning when I forgot to apply and got nailed with about 30 bites on my lower legs.

Whichever one has the bigger walk-in kitchen cooler :maggie:

Keep walking north about 10 minutes past Arcos Iris and try Posada las Orquideas http://http://www.posadalasorquideas.com/ or Sea Grape Plantation (both w/rates similiar to Arcos Iris). They catch pretty constant breezes off Mangrove Bight and it's much more open than most of West End. No real big deal walk back into West End, if you need it for anything. It becomes very bug free and quiet once you are north of West End and diving w/ Sea Grape is very pleasant (easier to dive w/ SGP if you stay at either place, they just make it too easy and fun not to!) // ww

Second floor of Coco Lobo it is - contacted several places, and they were the most accommodating (though EVERYBODY I've contacted in the island so far has been great - can't wait to get there!). Breezy, not on the sand, and they've even got a pool! And the deck view seems awesome. No doubt the mini-fridge will be put to good use for afternoon whaleshark-spotting sessions (I know it's not whale shark season, but then again, after a day of diving and a couple of cold beers, we won't particularly care). Loading whale-watching music onto my iPod as we speak...
Thanks, all, and Cheers!
