Explore North Carolina’s shipwreck ecosystems as
NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries Hosts
Bringing Shipwrecks to Life
on September 13 and 14, 2013
Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium,
Beaufort, North Carolina

The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries in collaboration with Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) along with partners NCCOS, Discovery Diving, and the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is hosting a two-day workshop and diving opportunity to learn to survey the biological communities associated with North Carolina’s shipwrecks.

The workshop is designed to provide training for individuals in the identification of fish and invertebrates off the coast of North Carolina. Participants will learn how to conduct REEF surveys of the marine organisms on and around shipwrecks. Participants can then use these same techniques on their own to collect important data for REEF fish and invertebrate citizen science monitoring programs. The fish and invertebrate data that is collected is uploaded to the REEF database where it is available for public viewing and scientific analysis.
