How do they do that? I never had the impression that they could swim fast enough to clear the surface.

Wow, superb shots!

I don't know how they get out of the water either. It's devil magic.

GREAT PHOTOS! I've seen the rays around here leaping since I was a kid but nothing close enough to ever have taken a photo of, much less even have a camera ready when its done! It makes me wonder what they are saying when they fly up... "Hey yawl, watch this!" or something :D

Fantastic photos!

Manta rays are incredible animals, and I have witnessed 6-7 metre wingspan adults leaping a good 2-3 metres out of the water like this. An amazing sight!

Some say they do it to rid their bodies of parasites, but I reckon they are just show-offs who like doing it 'because they can'!

I often thought about seeing them cruising effortlessly past and wondered how they picked up enough speed to leave the surface like that, but if you've ever seen one startled (like when some numpty diver tries to grab it for a ride), you will see how fast they can go. They have one hell of a turn of speed when they want to move, and the acceleration is phenomenal.

Amazing! I have seen Manta Rays in the water and they are very graceful, but I have never seen them jump.
