I have a Dive Rite low profile pee valve that started leaking on my last dive. I didn't connect my tank to my dry suit and I let as much air out as possible to get down because I didn't have enough weight. Is it possible that my suit squeeze pushed some water in around the outside of the valve? I was connected to the valve but didn't pee and never felt any water come in through the tube which is connected to the valve. The leak was bad enough that after 20 minutes the left leg of suit was filled up to my the base of my ankle. It looks like some of the aquaseal around my valve is no longer adhering to the valve too which could be part of the problem. It was installed by someone who knows what they are doing and the valve is definitely tightlened all the way down. I only had problem on my most recent shallow water dive but I've only had this valve for 3 dives and the first two I had no issues. I'm also checking my suit for other leaks to confirm there isn't another leak but all signs point to the pee valve and I've never had a suit leak.

I'm worried I'll be on a trip and it will start leaking again which will be a big problem during a long dive in 41F water. If I cannot fix the leak or the problem occures again on a trip, is there something like a solid cap that I can bring along to replace the valve and completely seal it off?

Short answer, you weren’t prepared to dive. A vacuum is the most power force and will find every avenue to equalize. Even if you didn’t have enough weight to drop down and choose to try anyway hook up the suit hose to stop the squeeze.

What if I'm free diving? I have plenty of other valves on my suit and none of those leaked or leaked in the past when I was free diving.

1) Always fill the hose with some urine before diving. Urine is not compressible, the air in the tube will cause problems even in a "balanced" valve which is honestly a waste of money. Your whole drysuit hinges on the tiniest little duckbill valve that seems designed to leak.

2) Switch to a wetsuit for freediving.
