Well I tried to do my own lead shots at home, but unsuccessful.
What I've got are little lead wires of several inches.


You have to pour out of a lead laddle so you have drops falling in to a bath.
 
Be cautious when making your own shot, or using "recycled" shot from a range. If she lead shot has flatened edges, or becomes pointed through impact or in the forging process, those edges and points can cause the pouch liners to rip and then you start "bleeding" lead shot throwing your weight measurements off.
